Haven't seen the movie yet, but I plan to. I understand Michael Oher is a little embarrassed about all of the attention, as well as the fact that in the movie some of his story was "Hollywoodized". He was supposed to make a public appearance at a local restaurant last week (along with a handful of other Ravens players), and a lot of the crowd (myself included) paid $40 apiece to attend mainly to meet him. He was a no show. Kinda disappointing, but I guess I understand how difficult it is for a private person to be receiving so much attention.
I didn't like this movie. They took a great true story and hollywoodized it into a sappy story that seemed like a disney version of a real movie. I didn't buy it and it was a true story. It was insulting in parts, really his mom had to tell him to protect the quarterback just like his family - oh, OK, now he gets it. If I were Michael I would be insulted.
I took my mother to see this over Thanksgiving weekend and totally agree. The filmmakers were walking a fine line not turning the story into a "nice white people save savage black kid from himself" thing. And the kid who played the little brother was way too precocious. No kid acts like that.

True, it has a lot of that...and the whole "good Christian save savages" theme too, but it's certainly better than Twilight: New Moon, Ninja Assassin, 2012 or any of the other Hollywood filth that's out there now. I'd rather see this movie succeed than those!
Did Sandra Bullock get killed by the recession or something? She's putting out a crappy movie every other month!
It must be doing pretty well....the movie just grossed $100 million in domestic sales. Everyone I know who's seen has really enjoyed it. (And how can you not like Sandra Bullock?)

I thought her character was too perfect in the movie. She did a nice acting job though
But judging how good a movie is on how much money it grosses really isn't the best approach - look at the Transformer movies

True. But I think it appealed to people on a lot of different levels: football, a success story, small town makes big, helping others, even the religious aspect. Definitely a sleeper that's been seen more due to word of mouth than from advertising. And at this time of year, many of us are more attracted to a film with a postive slant.

No doubt it has mass appeal. I just wish it was truer to the story and I wish it was a better movie. I'm a sucker for these types of stories, but this movie just was to sugar sweet for me
