Lilya 4-Ever- A Russian film about the sex slave trade. Also deals with extreme poverty, childhood abandonment, prostitution, drug abuse, and suicide. Honest, bleak, heart-breaking and incredibly sad. Best performances by child actors that I've ever seen.

This film should be required viewing for everyone-people need to see how rough other people in other parts of the world have it (and how lucky we are to have social services and welfare), and that slavery is very real and still exists today.

Honorable mentions to:

The Grey Zone-About Jewish prisoners in Auschwitz who worked the crematoriums in exchange for an extension on their own lives.

Threads-A British-docudrama about nuclear holocaust and the ensuing tragedies afterwards. Most horrifying film I've ever seen.

Idi i Smotri (Come and See)-A Russian WWII film about partisan fighters. The scene where the Nazis come into town and destroy a village and the inhabitants is unforgettable. One particular scene of Nazi soldiers pulling a young girl into the back of a truck and proceeding to gang-rape her left me speechless.

Where the Wind Blows-An animation film about nuclear war. Focuses on an elderly couple and their demise. Their continuous faith in their government to come rescue them is sad.

I so agree with "Where the Wind Blows", so, so sad.

That was a tough one.
There are many that move me, and some of these films become permanently etched into my mind.
The ending of Places in the Heart gets to me every time.

I agree with this movie. I also cried with it.

And I almost cried with "Up". Yep, the Pixar movie . The story at the beginning with the old man becoming a widow after a life together just broke my heart, what can I say.

You know I actually thought that I was the only person who actually noticed how deep "up" actually was. I didn't cry but I was touched by it's sincerity.
