Crew Chief, that's not only a *very cool* opening scene, but one of my fave movies. What was the phrase associated with the Tomcat? In Thrust We Trust?
The deer-hunting scene at the very beginning of Last of the Mohicans was a dramatic introduction to the handsome, bucksinned Daniel Day Lewis.
A perfect melding of sound and vision is the opening seqence of Dazed And Confused, in which Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" is paired with the orange GTO slowly entering the high school parking lot--postively cinematic genius.

I'd have to say that one of my favorite opening scenes is from the movie "Quigley Down Under" when Quigley (Tom Selleck) is getting off the boat. His "talk" with the impatient passenger is quite the discussion! I missed that scene (or most of it) the first time I saw the movie. The next scene where he gets into the fight with the locals is pretty good, too.

I also really love the first twenty minutes of "Cars", especially with the amazing animation by Pixar during the opening Piston Cup race. I also really love the feeling with Lightning McQueen in the truck crossing the country on the Interstate, going through the cornfields and deserts....classic all-American scenes. I think Cars is a lot more than a kids' movie, its a very insightful film that reminds us what we've lost in the name of progress.

For me, the top five best opening scenes were in Goodfellas, The Godfather, Children of Men, House of Sand and Fog, and Schindler's List

Hi Cil! Yep; "In thrust we trust"! Those Tomcat operators have their own language! I did like the rest of the movie, too!

The opening scenes of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction ... also, the extremely long opening scene for Raising Arizona.

The opening sequence and opening credits for "Get Over It!" particularly the cleverly coreogaphed (and single-take) dance sequence.
