Do you really think these metal bands are close to the top-notch bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, or Metallica, when it comes to innovations? I really doubt.
Have you actually listened to any of the bands he listed, and do you listen to modern heavy metal music? If you did, you'd know that Opeth and Meshuggah are among the most influential metal bands to come out in the last 15 years. In the grand scheme of things, they're not as well-known as Metallica or Iron Maiden, but Opeth and Meshuggah are still very important bands with really good music.
FYI, Sweden is probably the most important country outside of Britain and the United States in the development of heavy metal music.

If we are talking pure rock you shouldn't be mentioning neither the Beatles,Pink Floyd or U2.
No matter how good or bad anyone think they are, neither of them rock very hard.
For pure rock and all time the US beats the crap out of the rest of us.

What is pure? I assume you confuse two different terms:
1. Rock
2. Rock'n'Roll
AC/DC is sure a very famous band, but it seems, it is the only one Australian band, which is very famous all over the world.
Supertramp.
maybe Midnight Oil.
