Yeah, I just thought of it as a result this convo and though it interesting. Was there a lot of blacks who could tell or where they just not liking her music? I have no doubt white people were fooled.

Could be something to research! There are difference for sure but I'm not sure the genetic would be solely African. Genes that are only found in one population are rare and ones that cause phenotype traits are combos. I other words even if it was generally the case that more Africans had some genes it would be rare to not find anyone else (Asians, Whites, etc) not having them even if they happened to be in smaller % as a population.

Possibly! West African is a large enough group and small enough compared to the rest of Africa to be such population(genetically speaking) that would carry such effect and of course that region mostly having slaves brought here would follow this line of thinking. My limited travels in Africa were in Uganda so that might be irrelevant when looking at West Africa. Interesting though!
I am not a scientist. But I thought this study was interesting.

Facial bones in black adults maintain higher mineral density as they age than other races, resulting in fewer changes to their facial structure, a Rutgers study finds.

The study, published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, is the first to document how facial bones change as black adults age. The findings suggest significant differences in how facial bones age across races, which can affect how plastic surgeons approach facial rejuvenation.

If this is true, I'm not then sure why people would be so quick to dismiss any genetic basis for vocal differences out of hand.

I'm sure there are differences for vocal traits but not sure it would be significant. Lets say that 80% of blacks have genes that account for certain timbre features and 20% whites (just making this up) that would still mean that a huge amount of whites have that capability. Out of one billion people 200 million would be capable of such features. This is why it seems to be more cultural/linguistic than genetics. I know historically that a lot of African American Vernacular English had heavy influences from British features brought over from there and minimal from W. Africa AFAIK. It was not from a creole and then decreaolization.

Again, I would think genetics does play a role but I don't know if it is significant or unique to blacks in general - maybe W. African blacks but again not unique to them alone. I'd like to see some studies.

Maybe or maybe not. But there are certain genetic traits that are more or less "unique "to certain populations such as blue/green eyes, red hair and sickle cell. Finding one woman with red hair and blue eyes in a Rwandan village doesn't change that unless by "unique" we mean "100% exclusive," which is a bit of an impractical definition in my view.

Regardless of whether a perceived difference is biological in origin or not, I do think there is a *real* difference that is perceptible by most people, which is why the question is posed so frequently on forums.

I agree that it is perceptible for sure!

In the (neo-or post-)colonies racialism is EVERYTHING.

If one goes by the globalist plantation media of today, one would think euros & eurasians are genetically endowed to be better rappers & instrumentalists.

BE VERY WARY of those the globalist plantation propagandists deem as being the "avatars of authencity" & "credits to their race".

Again, I'm personally very wary of those promoting certain "natural order of things" theories since at one time, this cat & many others similar to him were once prominent (although just because he had talent, doesn't mean he's above critique & criticism of course) in a certain genre of entertainment but are largely forgotten & ignored today, which pretty blows a major hole in the "natural order of things" theorists.
