Do you listen to music in languages other than English?

If so, which ones? Do people around you consider it strange?

==

I would say more than half of the songs I listen to are in non-English languages: Arabic, Croatian, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Latvian, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil.

Most people I know do not listen to anything else than English, except perhaps (rarely) Spanish or French. More often than not, I can find translations of the songs I like or at least use a dictionary to get the sense of the song, so that isn't an issue.

Just out of curiosity, are you talking about classical, pop/rock, or both?

FYI, I'm a classical singer, so it almost surprises me to hear a song that's actually in English!

There are many songs in English that I can't understand anyway so they may as well be in another language. I live at the northern end of VT and there are more Francophone radio stations on my dial than English so I listen to a lot of music that is French. It's kinda sad that many of my neighbors can't be bothered to listen to these stations because they don't understand the language. I don't understand most of it either, but there's so much good stuff out there to be heard.

In recent years I've gotten into the Putamaya Groove tracks from all over the world and really enjoy them and have always loved classical arias and choral arrangements.

English is not my mother language so I also listen to German music. However, I prefer English. I also like some Spanish or Italian songs but it's too bad I don't understand them. That's why I prefer English music although I often don't understand the texts anyway (e.g. Eminem or music like that).

O-Zone - great Romanian band

Eros Ramozotti - my favorite Italian singer

Prljavo Kazaliste - for Croatian songs

Rapulok - funny Hungarian rap band

Sylvie Vartan - love to hear her sing Nicolas in French

Gypsy Kings - my favorite all-time non-English music

Also would add all non-lyric/folk music like Condor Pasa from Peru - how haunting, and love the steel drum music of the Caribbean as well. Perfect for sipping a cocktail at sunset...

Those are just the few that popped into my head from this thread.

Forgot to add - I listen to all the music that I think sounds good. No matter what language it's in. Forgot to add Italian.
