This has been bugging me a long time....when i was a kid, a friend of mine used to play computer flight simulators based on WW1 battles. He used to play a classical composition on his tape deck while playing the game...the composition fit the game perfectly....

Now, the composition was in the style of Wagner and featured a loud, booming, over-the-top full orchastra. I would say it was probably part of the late 19th century/early 20th century "romantic" movement....had a very rousing, almost Star-wars-ish feel....although i am positive it was not Wagner or any of the famous guys like Tschovsky...my friend mentioned a name once, i forget what it was, though it might of been French.

Now, the only thing i can do is transcribe myself humming the powerful opening notes of the song....something like

DOO DOOT DOO! DOO DOOT DOO! DOOT DOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the following notes are not as rousing as the opening

i know this is very vague, but if you could help, i would appreciate it dearly

Yes, that is vague, but since you mentioned Star Wars, how about this, since John Williams borrowed heavily from Holst's "The Planets":

Was it perhaps something by Gustav Mahler?

it does sound similar to this Vaughan Williams piece
