The passing of Earl Scruggs reminded me, I think I once read that when people first heard his records, they thought it was somehow tricked up in studio, till they saw him live. Thats how awesome and pioneering he was. I also heard this about Eddie Van Halen and Junior Brown.

What was the name of the group of studio muscians that played on so many successfull recordings? Sonny played for them briefly. A lot of Monkees songs and others you would never suspect didn't play the in-studio takes.
