OK the 2008 nominations to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are in. And nominated? Rock greats such as:

Donna Summer - yeah disco queen - in 1979 rock guys like me were burning her records in "disco sux" celebrations.
Madonna - Sure "like a virgin" is rock, sure.
Afrika Bambaataa - OK, ummm, who?
Chic - HAHAHA, see my Donna Summer comment.
Leanord Cohen - oh yeah, he was a rock god.

Finally, after apparantly lifted from Jann Wenners black list, The Dave Clark Five were nominated. The Rock and Roll hall of fame has become a joke with this round of nominations. Apparantly, from what I have read, Rolling Stone magazine owner Jann Wenner practically owns and has the final say on the rock and roll hall of fame franchise now, which means of course he has certain bands that have been "blacklisted" by his magazine or him personally as part of his own power peculiarities or due to some personal transgressions, forever banned from the rock and roll hall of fame. I wonder if his certain sexual preference (not that there is anything wrong with that) has lead him to proclaim these disco/gay freindly bands to the list.
So where is Yes? where is Deep Purple? where is Chicago? where is Jethro Tull? where is Moody Blues? where is Heart? where is Genises. Instead Jann give us f**cking DONNA SUMMERS?
Gee thanks!

IMHO it was always a joke.
It is nice to be recognized, but something about the RR Hall of Fame always felt a bit *off* to me. I just couldn't take it seriously.
Rolling Stone, while it strains to be relevant, might be on shaky ground, as well, and if Jann Wenner is that involved in the Hall, then I suppose his influence is being felt.

All of the musicians below, who are not yet inducted, wrote some really good songs and played some really good music, and of course there are more where those came from.
Blondie
Carole King
Steve Miller
Dire Straits
My beloved Warren Zevon

I wasn't one of the disco haters, but I certainly don't think Donna Summer rates over the people on my little list.

Rolling Stone in itself has been a joke for many years, which might explain the lack of seriousness many of us have in regards to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Yeah man, I was a long time subscriber to Rolling Stone, a good 12 years. A couple years ago I finally had enough - it was turning into a combination of "Us/People" magazine and a political "We Hate Bush" rag. I mean I understand, Rolling Stone was always meant to be about more than music, and they want to stay hip, but it stopped being even remotely about rock anymore.

I mean, when they voted "Backstreet Boys" band of the year one year (ableit I think it was a readers choice) then I knew it was time to cancel.

But back to Rock & Roll hall of fame, I like your choices as well...it's just sad.

Yeah I take a post seriously from someone that just posted in the business forum "help I have a strip club addicition". You're a troll, mildly entertaining, but still a troll. Have fun in "banned camp", I think you're heading there soon.

Oh please school us, oh great and mighty bada$$ loose cannon.

To me, rock and roll always was its own reward, and still is.

But if you, in your infinite youthful wisdom, can offer us something deeper than random invective, you might be surprised at my ability to learn.

Rock is an attitude and it's more than a guy strumming a guitar. Most music people recognize Chic as very original and talented in the Disco-Funk fields which whether you like it or not is a cousin of rock. Nile Rodgers also of Chic fame has proven himself as Donna Summer had a great voice and made fairly decent songs.
