Beyonce's popularity seems to keep on growing and her popularity is at a all time high. She was the lead singer to one of the best-selling girl groups of all time called Destiny's Child. The group has sold over 50 million records. As a solo artist she has become even more popular selling over 75 million records as a solo artist and is already considered a legendary icon. My question to everyone is "Do you think Beyonce's popularity now rivals Micheal Jackson's popularity in the prime of his career?"
Beyonce
Micheal Jackson

Nope. She's popular, but nowhere near Mike levels at his peak. Not even close.
I agree... MJ was the man....... I grew up with that dude and he shaped musical generations...... beyonce is talented but probably won't have the same longevity that MJ had or the impact.....
Not only that, but MJ has such an extensive body of work going back to his days with the Jackson 5. It's hard to find a human being who doesn't like at least ONE Michael Jackson song.
This thread made me play "Never Can Say Goodbye" and it's hard not to get a little teary-eyed listening to it. I can't say the same about any Beyonce song.
Michael Jackson, as an artist deeply inspired other artists/muscians/dancers (of various generations) and continues to do so even after his death. Beyonce is not even on the level of a Diana Ross whose greatness transcends her immediate generation.
Also, Beyonce has yet to record an iconic signature song that will transcend the here and now. I'm sorry but "Halo", "Single Ladies", "Baby Boy" and "Deja Vu" et al are not icon making songs.

No. Even if she outsells him I don't think she'll ever match him as far as the impact his music had on the industry (considering he inspired most current artists, including her).
Besides MJ's prime was during a completely different era. The world was a different place. There were still racial tensions...I think I read somewhere that he signed with Motown the same year MLK was shot & the Detroit riots. He's considered the first black international superstar.
Also back then there was no Youtube, iTunes, concert DVDs, etc... I doubt many celebs would actually be celebs if it wasn't for technology & media hype.

I strongly disagree with that. I think Beyonce is at the very least on the same level as Diana Ross and I will even go as far as to say that she has already surpassed Diana Ross in popularity.
