I am a guy and I love to dance. At any party or event with dancing, as soon as at least one guy is on the dance floor, I am out there as well, and I often dance to 10 songs in a row or more before taking a short break and then going right back out there. However, I do not know the routines to any line dances, even basic ones like Cotton-Eye Joe and Teach Me How to Dougie. I just somehow try and follow along with everyone else, but I still noticeably mess up. The only line dances I actually know are the Cupid Shuffle and the Macarena, and even with those when I haven't done them in a long time, they take me a while to get used to. The Cha Cha Slide is basic, and I don't know that either. Do you guys think it's weird that I don't know any line dances, even the basic ones? It's just amazing that at parties or any other occasion where there is dancing, everybody knows the moves like the back of their hand, when I can imagine that they don't spend all their free time looking up the dances on the Internet, reading about them, and practicing nonstop. Also, are any of you guys the same way as me or is it just me? People generally don't care but it still sucks.
I know it may be weird, but I just feel it's not normal to not know any line dances. I am a pretty good dancer, it just kinda sucks not to know the routines though when everyone else knows them like the back of their hands. I'm not letting it ruin my life or anything but of course I want to know if it's normal.
I have never had the slightest interest in learning line dancing. Something like "The Stroll" is cute, echoing older dances. But, C&W is absolutely klutzy, and I skipped the disco scene. It simply doesn't look enjoyable to me.
