Is that an odd question?

All you musicians chime in...it seems amazing that's all it takes to realize what song is starting....

Just heard two notes of Evita and could id it immediately. Same foe Wine and Roses...2 notes to id...

When you know the song well enough, the first few notes are all you need.
God bless you always!!!
Holly
P.S. I've seen how crazy people go when hearing the opening notes of the song named "Friends In Low Places".

I guess it's akin to hearing a unique name that you're familiar with.

I don´t know really.
Sometimes I can name a song on the very first note.

I know! It's quite incredible when you think on it...

Memory works in odd, strange ways at times.
I can't remember names like I can remember notes...but I do remember faces...

It could be that it is a compositional device, meaning that a composer's ultimate goal is to hook you as soon as possible. Beethoven set the bar with da dadda da. Not only did he hook you with four notes but he got you to listen to 30 minutes of the same melody and get bored.

There are only 12 notes, and everyone uses them. It's not the notes we recognize as much as the timbre, or quality of sound which is applied to the notes, that allows us to recognize a song in just a few notes.
