When people who know something about Brazilian music think about "music from rural Brazil" most will think about the "sertanejo" genre, that is more typical of the Center-West and Southeast regions of Brazil.
Since I am from the Northeast of Brazil my notion of the current "music from rural Brazil" is a little different. Most rural areas of the Northeast of Brazil are areas with semi-arid climate, and look a little like... rural Texas, or something like that (but with no cold season, it's damn hot all year long )... Maybe it looks a little like Queensland for Australian frame of reference Well, but the semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil has more than 24 million inhabitants, that's a lot of people... And that's just the semi-arid portion of the Northeast, not including the coastal areas.
Music from the rural Northeast of Brazil is mostly based on the "forró" genre. Current music from this region, in the year 2020, has very particular characteristics, it's a kind of pop music based on "forró", with lyrics that talk mostly about... partying and having fun.
