Little Richard was one of the last of the important seminal 50s rock artists still living. Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, Ray Charles, Bill Haley, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochrane, Bo Diddley, Phil Everly — all dead now. He was one of the major names from that time, too, a giant in that era.
Paul McCartney was heavily influenced by him (“I’m Down,” “Helter Skelter,” “I’ve Got a Feeling,” “She’s a Woman,” his cover of “Long Tall Sally”). Any song where he does uptempo screeching, it’s modeled after Little Richard. Folks like Prince, Mick Jagger, and Stevie Wonder were as well.

RIP.
Agree.
I met Bo Diddley once, many years ago in a music store....
The Beatles were huge fans of Little Richard...there is a great photo of them with him, circa 1963.
Paul did a great take on Little Richard with "Long Tall Sally", he loved to sing that one.
I might be mistaken, but I think Jimi Hendrix briefly played in Little Richard's band,
I seem to recall reading he didn't like Hendrix showing off, upstaging him.
I think my very favorites of his were Long Tall Sally, Rip It Up, and Keep A Knockin'. We did a lot of dancing in my home and Little Richard tunes were the ones you played when you really wanted to get your blood pumping.
RIP Little Richard, he was backed by some good New Orleans jazz men who knew how to blow the horns. His screams, hoops and hollar's could really spice up a song, such as Tootti Frutti and Girl Can't Help It. He was really on top of his game in the late 50's.
Little Richard just didn't show his age. He was a fabulous showman.
His music directors were from Muscle Shoals--first Donnie Fritts and later Travis Wammack who is one of the greatest guitar players anywhere.
And Little Richard actually lived in Nashville in recent years.

I didn't. Arguably the earliest of these folks to be considered "Rock and roll" as well.
