I was on YouTube when I came across a video with an interesting song in the beginning of it. The song starts in the beginning and goes to about 4:15.

Anyone recognize the song? Is it best catagorized as funk?

It's a song from 1980 called Flight by A Certain Ratio. Definitely not funk.

More jazz-influenced New Wave, similar to Depeche Mode.

My phone Shazam app identified it as:

Flight (12" version) - A Certain Ratio

Definitely influenced by Joy Division and later bands. (EDIT: Maybe not, since they were around at the same time.)

Actually, they are categorized as New Wave, Avante Funk.

Yeah, A Certain Ratio appeared pretty early on in the initial flowering of post-punk.
