Elvis and Ricky Nelson were both finished in the early 60s. Manfred Mann died out in the mid 60s. And I just assumed that I'd never hear from John Fogerty again after about 1971 or Aerosmith was after the 70s were over. But they all came back with something to say and were quite relevant in an another decade.

There have got to be others. Who else has managed this sort of a comeback? I'm not looking for those who put on a revival show, but musicians that truly found new ways to express their creativity. Your thoughts?

Good thread Sir! Another one you can pencil in that era is Dion. Twice. From '62 to '68 there was little material coming out until the Abraham, Martin, and John came out in 1968. After that he put out a string of folk related albums when he switched from Laurie to Warner Brothers label in '69. Another long dry spell and then Dion put out a great album called Yo Frankie in '87, I believe. A survivor for sure as the British Invasion sadly put a lot of '50's and early'60's rockers out to pasture.

Tina Turner put a lot of younger women rockers to shame in the mid-80s when she came roaring back. And she's still going.

Rick Nelson ... sniff ...

The return of Manfred Mann with that long meandering, prog rocky, boring, blinded by the light was unneccessary and unwanted.

My first thought was of John Anderson. He had a fair amount of success in the early to mid 80s with hits like "Swingin'," "Black Sheep," and "Money in the Bank." He pretty much faded out for a number of years, but came back in the early 90s with "Straight Tequila Night" and "Seminole Wind," among others.

Been replying to a few threads in the country genre; an artist that has been around for forty plus years is Loretta Lynn, who put a great new release called Van Lear Rose, her first bit of new material in a long time.

Another artist that disappeared for a while, then made a comeback was Kenny Rogers. After his fame in the 70s and 80s, he pretty much faded away. In 1999, he released the CD "She Rides Wild Horses" that was a top 10 album in the year 2000, if I read the information correctly. His comeback hit from that album was "The Greatest" which was a song about a boy's dream of being a great baseball player. He has since had several big hits including "Buy Me A Rose," which, in the year 2000, was his first number 1 song in nearly 10 years. At the time, he was 61 years old, and was the oldest artist in country music to have a number 1 song. This record stood until 2003 when Willie Nelson, along with Toby Keith, went to number 1 with "Beer For My Horses."

All this information is from the Wikipedia page on Kenny Rogers found at this link:
