A guy I used to ride the bus with every day in Southern California asked me to go because his wife didn't want to (she wasn't a fan), and I was like, uhhh OK. I wasn't really a fan either, but hey it was free and he was a good friend so I went to keep him company. The concert was held at The Universal City Amphitheatre and this would have been about 1984 I believe.
It was such an incredible show and I became an instant fan. I mean, talk about talent. I was actually kind of embarrassed that I wasn't really a fan until then. I mean, I liked their hits, but the show made me appreciate their entire roster.
A friend and I went to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in 1989. He drove and wanted us to get there early. This meant we'd see the opening act whom I had never heard of before. The opener put on a great show that people were talking about between acts. I went out the next day and bought his first CD. Who was he? Lenny Kravitz and that first CD is still awesome
