The Clash are my favorite band EVER! But being the youthful person that I am, I never had the chance to see them (argh!) and the one chance I had to see Joe Strummer perform, well I forgot. Now without Joe, it'll never be the same, shame.

But I could only imagine their acts being sweet.

Kind of a strange comparison. The Clash is more of an unglamourous punk/ska band (with some pop elements in there later works), U2 is more of a rock/pop band with a melodramatic theatrical flair. I guess during U2's early "Boy"/"War" period you could compare the two more easily.

I've seen both in concert. U2 actually 3 times. Now of course at the current time there could be no comparison because U2 is still filling stadiums with over 2 decades of music to draw from while The Clash are more or less defunct.

The Clash wasn't bad in concert, but they lacked the stage presence of U2 or the guitarist skills of The Edge. They probably work better on small, intimate stages. I remember the vocalist of The Clash jumping around stage during the show, always had his hands on his head when he sang. What was up with that? Bono, when I saw him during The War tour (circa 1982) would lapse into Broadway show tunes during his singing, jump into the audience and sing, and wave a huge flag on stage.

The Clash are probably one the better Punk bands from the UK. Punk started in NYC and the Psitols and others ripped them off. The Clash were genuine though. Also a lot of the New Wave-Punk bands like Siouxie and the Banshees were good but for the most part the Brits ripped off America!

*sigh*...kids! Look up "London Calling" - arguably one of the top 25 rock albums of all time. Gawd The Clash aren't that ancient!

Strange comparison, although for pure stage presence alone, I'd have to opt for U2.

Well OK, they were playing and I went to see them at the Motor City Roller Rink. Tiny dump, where you could just walk up the stage.
Yep, I'm old, but it was a great time!

You should have compared The Clash to Green Day or U2 to Aerosmith. The clash to U2 is no comparison. 2 different styles of music.
