My favorite is the 1974 movie.....The Phantom of the Paradise ......staring Paul Williams and Jessica Harper as it's the 70's hippie version of the old 1925 movie ''Phantom of the Opera'' as it has 50's Doo Wop, 60's folk and 70's Acid Rock genre's mixed into the horror flick. Check out the cool trailer!
A great song in the movie where actress Jessica Harper actually sings the song ''Old Souls'' as she has a beautiful voice . Actress Jessica Harper - Old Souls
I'm gonna go way out on a limb here, and nominate "Carmen: A Hip Hopera"
This 2001 picture starring Beyonce Knowles and Mos Def was seen by few, and panned by the hipsters who expected something further out. Nobody else bothered to watch it. But the music was nice, the feeling was sentimental, and the rhythmic dialog was not at all nerve-grating or hokey, as one would expect it would be. A nice little picture---give it a try.
The Scarlet Pimpernel (Broadway not movie) best, best, best music.. so fun
