Awww, man I was gonna start a Genesis thread in honor of the band being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Genesis is my favorite band. I'm kind of obsessed with them, and unlike many fans, I actually like all eras of the band (that's right, even "Invisible Touch" and "We Can't Dance," though "Calling All Stations" is just putrid). So, let me give you my favorite songs from the different eras of the band:
Phil Collins (who looks like a gnome in this performance ) does a respectable job on this song, but this Peter Gabriel just dominates anything from "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway."
I fell in love with Genesis when Nursery Cryme came out. The Fountain of Salmacis knocked me out, and when Foxtrot came out my neighbor finally asked me to stop playing Watcher of the Skies so loudly.
I saw Genesis twice. The first time was at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh, PA, a small venue with great acoustics. Genesis was tight and intense and the audience went nuts. The second time was in 1977 for the Wind and Wuthering tour at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, a much larger venue. The light show was dazzling which helped make up for the music and the group sounding tired. It was a perfunctory show at best.
