Screeching electric-type guitar picking, and screaming, sometimes anger-laced (almost always unintelligible) lyrics.

Purely high decibel noise which serves only to incite bedlam and deafen a healthy pair of ears, in my opinion

Anyone else want to come out of the square closet?

Im not overly nuts about most of it. I agree the screamng part is not a pleasant sound.

I might say Metalica might be above the crowd in the metal world. They are pretty good. At least it's all music. Just a different taste. Junk like rap and hippity hoppity is not.

I might also add Judist Priest as real good. Some consider Guns N Roses metal. I dont. If Guns N Roses were to release their first album in 1975 rather then the 90s it would have been just as big a platnum sales record, maybe more. Kiss is metal but are pretty good.

Overall I cant say too much bad about metal.

Lol.. I think there are a lot of sub-genres to Metal and if you like music you will def find some Metal worthy of listening to :-) Try Alt-Metal or Nu-Metal it's not too bad!

I'll join you outside the closet, Mortimor.

All the metal fans can't be crazy (ok could they be? lol) so I guess people like us just stay away from the genre and form our opinion based on a small sampling of music.

Metal - Acid, not for me.

But, I love Led Zeppelin & The Who so it's not a question of noise.

Thanks, FlaGrrrl. I listened to a few minutes of "Numb" and it's not bad at all.

That's why I never say I hate/dislike an entire genre of music because there are always exceptions. I'm not really a fan of Rap music either BUT I do like some and I even enjoy a few of Eminem's songs.

I do think people tend to prefer & stick to the music that was most popular when they were growing up & young adults.

Have a kid & I think you automatically turn into your parents & start thinking to yourself when you hear your kids' music choices, "You call THAT music?!" lol
