It has been a long time since we have had a discussion on Native American music.
Probably the most noted artist from the standpoint of past contribution to American rock is Robbie Robertson, the lead guitarist and co-founder of one of the top drawer bands of the 60's and 70's, The Band. After leaving the group, he has put out various solo lp's, one of my favorites being Music For The Native Americans, released in the early 90's. He is also listed in the top 100 of the greatest guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.
There are other Native Americans who have had good careers, such as Buffy St. Marie for folk, and Redbone, who recorded several lp's with Columbia. Redbone's most popular songs are "Come And Get Your Love" and "Witch Queen Of New Orleans".
There are so many to list. Google in Native American recording artists and a lot of noteworthy people pop up. Personally, my favorites would be Carlos Nakai and Coyote Oldham, both flutists. With Oldham, I recommend In Beauty I walk.
Another guy I like is Bill Miller, a guitarist. Good stuff!

There are some artists in there I haven't heard of. But I have Robbie Robertson's Red Road Ensemble music, plus, Indigenous and a few others. Thanks for posting that, Double H.
I'm a big Indigenous fan. Saw them live a few years ago and was very impressed. Granted I don't know if you would call their style native music really, but Mato can sure rip some mean blues guitar...
