Well,................ no.

Now, on the list of great instrumentals, that one would rank in the Top 10 for sure. As for Booker T & The MG's, that may well be their best effort.

I'm never gonna vote for one song as the best song.
But it is a great song by a great band.

I think on the thread about Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" someone said "it's the best song if you're a drunken 19-year-old girl" and the OP said "I am." So I said that there I knew of drunken 19-year-old girls that liked other songs then mentioned how my Mom liked to listen to "Green Onions" when she was nineteen and drunk. Then aardvarks and case carried along with that.

It is a great song. Best ever? Probably not. Best to listen to when you're a drunken female teenager? I would have no way of knowing, but even though I don't drink I could see it as a good "getting drunk to" song. You can't sing loud lyrics to it, true, but I think it would be good to dance around to in a sultry/jumbled way (And now I might have a weird vision of my Mom dancing all sexy, eek!)

No.

I've heard it so many times on TV commercials & promos that I always think of toothpaste or car insurance when I hear it. Pretty lame.

The unfortunate thing is that Booker T. and the MG's had/have more to offer than just "Green Onions". Two other instrumentals that they charted top 15 on (and sadly haven't been played on oldies radio in years) is "Soul Limbo" from the Summer of 1968 and "Time Is Tight" from the Spring of 1969. They are GREAT numbers. So is their version of "Hang 'Em High". It's an AWESOME version!

In fact, somewhere in between the middle of those tunes they done a nice re-make instrumental on "Groovin'". It's a version that would make Felix Cavalaire, Eddie Brigatti, and the rest of the Rascals proud.

Have to agree with case44 and BigSwede. Do think one of the better instrumentals, but not song - plus there are so many great songs out there in all genres, over so many decades, that even if someone put a gun to my head I'd be hard pressed to say which one was the best. Sorry
