People always remember the singer but rarely remember the writer.

He was great. His biggest non hit was probably "See You Later Alligator", which Bill Hayley made popular in the mid 50s. He would tour with The Band in the 70s, basically because Rick Danko liked the "vibes" he brought by hanging around backstage. On the boxed set of "The Last Waltz", The Band, Dr. John and Bobby Charles play "Down South In New Orleans" together (unfortunately, this was cut from the movie). I'm not a huge swamp pop guy, but Bobby Charles' career is a great jumping in point. RIP!

Milwaukeeproud is right. I was just listening to "The Last Waltz" the other day and wondered that myself. RIP, Bobby.
