For those who have listened to their songs and have heard of them, what would be your opinion on them? What are your favorite songs produced by them?

They remind my a lot of The Outfield...but of course they're very different bands.

The Cars were a good band. They were one of the first bands that had a poppy "new wave" sound to become popular in the US back around 1977-78 or so...

Some of my favorites

Just What I Needed
Its all I can do
Lets Go

in the mid-80s (1984?) they had several more hits--Drive & You Might Think

I used to listen to them quite a bit back in the 80's and still do from time to time.

If I wanna hear someone that sounds he's constipated (lol!) that's who I'll listen to. j/k.

I have a lot of respect for their guitarist Elliot Easton, I put him up there with some of the best. Good band.

They were a pretty good techie, pop-rock/new wavey-type band in the late '70's and early '80's. I always like Ric Ocasek's voice, he was great at sounding really stressed-out or perplexed, like in the song "Since You've Gone" which is one of my favorites. And as far as musicianship, they were a tight band, and they hade great producers; their albums always sounded sooo clean!
I had the opportunity to play session drums for Ocasek a few years after The Cars broke up, when he was working on a solo album called "This Side of Paradise" (I think that was the name.) Weird dude. I found out that sedgy stressed-out, paranoid-sounding voice he exuded on his songs was pretty much his true personality! LOL.

I've never owned any Cars albums (CDs/MP3s for you younger folks lol), but I've always liked most of their cuts. The "You Might Think" video was a trip for its time (1984), and "Drive" was always a nice song from 8th grade dances, and thanks to Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Phoebe Cates, I'll always have a wonderul memory of "Moving in Stereo!"

And they ALWAYS had hot women in their videos, so hey that's a !

RIP Ben Orr.

Great band.

I think they are great as they are one of the pioneering bands who started the 80's New Wave sound and style back in the late 70's.

Candy-O was definitely my fave album by them.

My favs:

You Might Think
Drive (ya, ya, I know most people think it sucks)
Magic
Moving in Stereo

Ones I can no longer stand:

Shake It Up
Just What I Needed
My Best Friend's Girlfriend

I don't know too much about them other than what is played on mainstream radio.
