Hard rock best band who never got enough recognition: Y&T. Now 36 years strong.

Two other of my favorites who just plain kick butt are Leatherwolf and Helix.

GREAT list by Herbrocks! I'm with eloyfan as well on Y&T.

A few obscure bands in the early 70's that I really like that just didn't make it and should have would be Steamhammer, Gun, and Three Man Army.

ManOwaR! They're from New York and 90% of their fan base is in Europe. Considering how intense their music is: how face melting the solos are, how insane the bass guitarist shreds, the insane drumming power of the percussionist, and how outrageously well the singer can sing in a true heavy metal/operatic style... it really says something about American culture.

We are capable of being the best in the world... most of us are just too lazy.

Some songs to listen to:
Sleipnir
Spirit Horse of the Cherokee
Battle Hymns
All Men Play on Ten
My Spirit Lives On

They seem to me like they're more acid rock or something.

Not underrated, but more people should listen to In Flames and Alexisonfire

For me, I would have to list King's X, Queensryche, and Sevendust. I realize all three acts obtained a certain level of success, but I still don't think they get the recognition or respect they deserve.
Judas Priest by far is one that comes to mind. Caught in between Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and the 80's hair band Metal. They were not giving the respect they deserved IMO.

FLOTSAM AND JETSAM !!!!

Absolutely underrated cause everybody says only their first two albums are good - but in my opinion that's not true.
DRIFT and MY GOD are also brilliant and I hope their new record THE COLD will be a masterpiece again!
