I was told that many of the Grande Dunes homes are "hurricane proof", meaning reinforced concrete walls, storm rated windows, etc.

Does anyone how true this is?

They are built to current building specs, which requires structural reinforcements, but as for being 'hurricane proof'.. I'm not so sure.

The ICF construction method is about the best out there, from what I'm told, for being less prone to structural damage from a storm. The biggest worry one has for hurricane is structural separation of the roof from the sidewalls.. Once the roof is compromised, the rest is history..

I would say that the majority of the homes in GD were built to exceed 'standard building specs' as they are generally a better built home by custom builders. Of course, some custom builders are better than others.. so it still pays to have an inspection done prior to and as a contingency of purchase.
