It,s really a shame that the Mayor and City Council have blaitenley turned the spring motor cycle rally against the businesses of city limits MB. Most of us bikers will enjoy the spring rally from outside the city limits. This will deprive many businesses of revenue, that in this economy could prove critical to survival. Wake up people!!! Hey Dave -
A lot of locals share your opinion. Unfortunately, the face of MB is changing. It's fast becoming a retirement community who could care less whether any tourists ever come to MB. It's this group that's driving the bike week rebellion and the city council is bowing to their pressure. And you're right, it will be at the expense of local businesses. City Council keeps promoting the argument that families will replace the bikers (in May??), but the businesses know that family vacationers will just be changing the weeks they visit, rather than generating incremental business. Many down here believe it is a terrible decision, particularly in the face of the current economy.

It's "The Wild One" all over again. Where's Marlon Brando?

Dead?

I rest my case.

Seriously, the tourist industry does not turn on whether the two biker rallies happen here or not. There are many who would rather forego the relatively small revenue bump than to have to deal with the destruction of property, unsafe road conditions, etc.

And yes I know that one of the rallies is much worse than the other. But even if we have to do without both we'll be better off overall.

There used to be a kind of social control, like "I will not get really drunk and speed down Ocean Blvd vomiting all the way because I would lose the respect of my brother/sister bikers." But apparently that doesn't exist anymore. Any kind of perverse behavior is more likely to get cheers than anything else.

And since motorcycles do not go swimming, wouldn't the desert just make a lot more sense?

And this has nothing to do with retirees or long-distance visitors. There are a lot of people who live close enough to come to the beach just for a day, or a weekend. They have rights too. And they don't care much who fell off the back so that the "If you can read this..." T-shirts can be read.

simply put... you can't ban one rally without banning the other... It would be politically incorrect. Does the town really want to ban both? Hell no.

But they will, if that's what it takes.

And don't worry so much about the town. The county could do some banning of its own. That would put you roaring past the seafood restaurants in Murrells Inlet, or farther south.

I'd love to see what happened if the rallies were moved to Charleston. Let's make that a dare.

will, and are doing so...

Unfortunately, Harley week'rs think it's a Myrtle Beach thing against them... and are upset about it....

NAACP thinks Myrtle Beach is against them and are suing everybody and anybody.... they already tried to sue the Myrtle Beach City police.... fortunately they lost, because that's a ridiculous lawsuit. But the members of the police department have to attend a few hours of 'classes'... *ahem*

Adults getting upset over such little things. I don't get it.

So it sounds like it's time to move on. I say south to Charleston! A dare has been issued!

Playing chicken in Battery Park! I'd pay to see that.

See I know that traditional Harley bikers don't behave as has been described here. But the younger generation doesn't seem to be carrying on the traditions. It's just that their parents bought them expensive bikes the same way they buy them expensive cars. And a good time to them necessarily means seeing how messed up you can get, every time.

We don't need it here. Charleston needs it!

I totally agree with that.... I like to call it.... "Amateur Hour".... when I see some young punk that just recently bought his bike 2 weeks prior to Bike week and tries to show off down 17. THAT crap get's on my nerves... but that's about it mostly... oh, and the guys that ride side by side with the inner rider driving his bike right on top of the passing lines.....

I'm in a truck and trailer all day long.... HOPING they're paying attention, cause I don't want one of THEM clipping my trailer fender....
