You can not use Naples tide charts for Sanibel. Tides will vary within just a few miles. For instance the lighthouse tide is totally different from Casa Ybel tide, and they are just a few miles apart.

Where you shell depends on what kinds of shell you are looking for. I have already told you in a previous post where some of the better areas are. Please refer to that post.

Let us know what you find.

See this link: Tide Charts :: Activities :: Sanibel-Captiva, Florida - Let Sunny Day Guide help plan your next family vacation and fully experience the Sanibel-Captiva Islands of Florida.

There are two low tides for Feb. 1. One is 6:38AM and the other is 5:12PM.

The tide chart listed in the link is for the lighthouse point which is the most southern point of Sanibel. I believe you subtract time as you go up the island. Such as at Casa Ybel the low tide is 30 minutes sooner (my memory may be wrong, and it may be 30 min later--you can call the chamber of commerce, and they will tell you which it is). At any rate if you look at the tide chart link, Feb. 5-Feb. 9 may be your best days.

Walked, shelled and photographed the Sanibel Island beach this morning. Very nice. Collected a ton of shells. Several new types for my collection.

Glad you got to go on such a beautiful day. What area did you go to? I was headed to Sanibel today but got delayed, and didn't make it. Maybe I'll go tomorrow.

Sanibel is the shell capital of the world. After a storm and low tide just can't be beat.

I parked near the lighthouse. Got there about 7 am (still dark). Low tide was at 7:21. Brought a ton of shells. Thinking of trying Marcos Island tomorrow.....

Marco is pretty and fairly good for shelling around the Hilton Hotel. I think there is a Collier parking lot close to it.
