Hello all I am a married man of 14 yrs. with a 13 yr old son. My family and I live currently in northern Michigan and decided to head south to Florida. My question now is that I have looked all over Florida via the internet to try and find a nice place to live, I have looked into Bradenton but the gated communities is a little rough, Port Orange which I felt was nice but have heard that about 20 miles north of Daytona there is alot of gang problems beginning and then I see Naples. This sounds like a nice area and I have looked a some houses in the Golden Gate Estates but was told that being so close to alligator alley that is could be a problem for dogs or kids. Ok I have babbled on to much basically if anyone can give some good advice or even opinions it would be greatly appreciated adn yes I know I putting trust in ppl I do not know but hey someone has too. Thank you in advance and Naples is the place for us then maybe we shall have a Bar B Que someday when we get there.

This makes no sense. Alligator Alley is I-75 between Naples and Fort Lauderdale.

What do you want to know?

Of course it can be.

Provide more details so we can give better advice.

Do you need jobs? What field? What is your housing budget? Where are you now and why Naples?

well like I said in my original post I currently live in Northern Michigan and housing around 125000 to purchase a home and as far as work goes I am finishing my degree in computers (information support specialist) so probably in the IT field.and why Naples I have no clue have heard from some it was a nice place to have family and retire and some I have heard not so I am here asking for more opinions. Sorry I thought I had written all that in the original posting but guess I was just thinking it and the words didn't come out on the keyboard. I have also looked in Port Orange and Bradenton area.

Read my post in this thread. You have to scroll down a few posts. It describes Naples and many people found it helpful.:

Now I'm scared to move to Naples!

The job will likely be difficult. Naples does not have a tech economy. You can certainly raise a family and retire here but the economy is geared to retirees. No doubt about that.

Stay away from Bradenton, for sure. Naples is definitely one of the best places in Florida - relatively low crime, good schools, shopping, beautiful beaches, good libraries and county parks. I would stay away from Golden Gate. The closer you can get to the beach, the better. There are some nice neighborhoods in North Naples, which is the most desirable area. A less expensive area in North Naples would be Naples Park - it is a great deal right now and walking distance to the beach and shopping. That neighborhood is assigned to the best schools in Naples. Another great subdivision is Imperial Golf Estates but it is a gated golf course community and quite a bit more expensive. However, it is very reasonable for what you are getting. Palm River is also a nice, older golf course community. With Florida's beautiful weather, no state income tax, reasonable property taxes and the depressed property values it is a great time to buy a home here. Good luck!
