My brother is wanting to buy a vacation home in Naples/Ft Myers area, he is working with a Realtor and the realtor keeps telling him how much more home he can get if he considered buying In Le-high or Cape Coral and how nice it is there. I don't know much about the area. All I know is that when I watch the news or read the paper these areas are always in it, and not for good things. Any input would be greatly received.

Lehigh is a pit.... A nasty crime ridden pit ... It's a good hour (give or take) from the beach and a 45 min drive inland once u get off the highway. There is NOTHING there .. At all..I guess ft Myers is okay depending on where of course.. IMO his best bet is Estero (beautiful) and Naples. He might not get as much for his money (whatever that budget is) but he will be near beaches, shopping , entertainment etc etc.. There's a reason those places are cheaper. And like u said , not for the right ones.

What Realtor in their right mind would promote Lehigh Acres. I know they are not allowed by law to put down a particular area... but to out right say Lehigh is a good area? Lehigh is as the previous poster said..."THE PIT" The arm pit of the Ft. Myers/Naples area. The ONLY way I would ever consider that area, is if I was destitude and in dire need of a place to live with little money. Thus the problem... Poverty breeds criminality. Those in poverity are unfortunately stuck between a rock and a hard spot and the criminals make things bad for everyone. Even the ones who's only sin is poverty itself. So the few ruin it for the many.

Cape Coral (some areas) is nice. You can get a nice home for a decent dollar. But prices are starting to head back up and canal homes are still going to go for a premium. I woldn't want to live or buy in the Cape unless I had a navigatable canal. it is a LONGGGGG dive to the ocean across a TOLL bridge.

Ft. Myers can be a dicey investment if you don't know your areas and roads in those areas. You can have a beautiful home right next to a crime ridden ghetto. Your generally safe with home in the South Ft. Myer's area and some of Iona. Generally most places along McGregor are pretty nice too, but only so far North. Unless you head down there.. it is a crap shoot...expecially if you have a dumb realtor who tells you Lehigh is nice.

I beg to differ. If you're anywhere in Naples, the closest ocean is around 100 miles away. The Gulf of Mexico, however, is very close.

Perhaps not geologically correct, but anything that big with salt water and waves I call an ocean......
