What do Naples folks do with all their 'stuff'?

We are moving from MN where we have abundant basement storage. I've weeded and tossed, but still have alot of items to bring. Our house doesn't have alot of indoor storage so we will need to use the garage or rent a storage area. I am concerned about the high humidity in the garage. Will cloth items (old keepsake stuffed animals) develop mold? Will metal items rust? Are we best renting a climate-controlled storage area for our photographs, mementos, etc. or do these items do fine in a garage?

I agree about missing the basement!!! We use the Lock-up on Piper in North Naples (they have several locations) since moving from Michigan. It has temp/humidity controls & has online specials frequently. DO NOT store pictures/wood items/collectibles in your garage - I have ruined several things due to the humidity!

Best to get a big place so you won't have to spend 100.00 a month to store unused items.
Figure you can budget 100.00 a month more on your rent/ mortgage, or you can spend 100.00 a month to store things you can never use .

Understand that this is not a recommendation....wouldn't want you trying to find me and punch me in a year or so....but...
I absolutely do not understand the physics to this but we have two shed units that can come with an aluminum lanai. They have a simple turbine vent(non-motorized)

In the 4 years we've had stuff in there, nothing is mildewed or moldy....including, this year, two poor deceased anoles which were dessicated instead, unlike the 'fuzzy' mice in our basement when we go back north.

Tools, lawn equipment, a roll of upholstery fabric, the cushions to the lawn furniture, cardboard boxes not even the least bit soft...the only thing that had any mold at all was the seal on the top of the door of the freezer...something not unusual even if inside.

We've had good luck storing stuff in attics down here, The high heat keeps it very dry.

I love Hide A Way on Pine Ridge. They have inside and outside, prices are good and they are real people, family owned and great to deal with. I've gone out of my way when moving several times to use them.
