Looks like my aged HVAC unit needs service (at least). Have you had a good experience with a particular company in the area?

Aged, as in how old?
Have you popped the handler cover and looked in at the condensor coil?

I had a very good situ with a new handler and compressor install from a local company...I have never had good luck with 'service': they are usually trying to sell you an expensive band aid or a C- new unit, for big dough, or new part(s) you to a fare thee well...

If it is SEER 12 or so, it will pay you back in a year or year and a half to go to SEER 16/new unit.
No expert, but I spent a month studying HVAC units, asking lots of questions, 3 quotes, the whole process, before 'deciding'.

PS: In the meantime, I Searched the Naples Forum and found only one testimonial, but I know the poster and they, (the poster), are on the ball, fwiw:

I don't have any documentation on the unit except what the home inspector left. It is a Frigidaire 2.5 ton AC/Electric Heat/Humidistat. It apparently is about 9 years old. It is cooling fine, but leaving a puddle of water in the utility closet. I don't think the drain is clogged (but can't tell for sure). The water seems to be bypassing the pan and dripping down through the filter.

Anyway, I would like to find an honest contractor that will make every effort to fix this unit and get it working at best efficiency before trying to sell me a new one.

Condensation forming on coil, but not being removed...condensate line may be plugged, or coil may be accumulating more moisture than it can handle, due to low Freon and a few other possibilities.
No HVAC guy, but have become armchair AC guy, lol! Sort of like an armchair lawyer...

Did you see Beckford's rec'd in the linked post? That's a start for a HVAC tech.

Just checked the posted company. BBB gives them an F. Could not find any reviews either positive or negative. It appears they are either not licensed of have a problem with their license.

tmozer, I wasn't promoting that company; simply ref'ing it as a possibility, as that poster said they have had good luck with that specific contractor.
There are pages of HVAC companies in SW FL. Picking one is difficult, I agree.

I can shoot you the HVAC company contact info that did my new version, if you want, but they are aimed more at new units, (with post install service included), than checking out your existing situ.

Maybe other posters will chime in with rec'ds...but it's all anecdotal, imo.

I hear you...if it comes down to doing a replacement unit, (handler and/or compressor), I have an exc rec'd contractor, that sells top line brands, install is careful and thorough, and he will beat most/all pricing, fwiw.
