I am looking for a place in Florida to purchase a condo.
As I play golf, I was thinking in looking into Naples. Would you recommend gated-communities with access to a golf course or near a golf course where I should be looking at properties?
I am also looking for something in Wellington or West Palm Beach? Any recommendation or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Wellington.....We live in Village Walk....LOVE IT! Beautiful property and very quiet. I have several friends that live in The Isles which is also very nice. Hope this helps.

Naples has an enormous amount of gated golfing communities.. Pelican Bay, Pelican Marsh, Grey Oaks, Tiburon, Foxfire ......Most gated communities in Naples are on golf courses. It all depends on your price range..

Naples and Wellington are two very different areas, but as a Wellington resident, I can't speak highly enough of my area! Okeehelee Golf Course (public) is a lovely course, also has tennis courts, a lake, and a number of offerings in addition to a new equestrian center. Wellington also has a number of private golf clubs and is more of a year-round town than a lot of other places, so you can actually get to know your neighbors. It's a very pretty town with a lot to offer, and the new Southern Blvd. entrance/exit onto the Fl. Turnpike makes commuting anywhere a lot easier.

Don't leave out South Naples. Really coming along now too. The fountains are lovely. Move there and you might even be able to wave to Tiger someday from your lanai. I hear the lots are starting at only $800,000.

Hey, you might even have Tiger for a neighbor too!!! Ya, never know.

Thanks to all for the replies. If I can ask for more information:
I like the idea of living in a neighborhood with year-round residents. I heard this is not the case in most of Naples gated communities. Is that right?
Safety is important and I understand this is better in Wellington than in other places in Florida. Any comments?
Due to work, access to international airports is important. How far is West Palm Beach International Airport from Wellington? Is there an international airport close to Naples?
Finally, I know I should visit both areas. Any recommendation of a hotel or resort to stay in Wellington and Naples?
Any info would be appreciated.

Tara is right. Naples is loaded with gated communities that have golf courses. They range from moderate (for Naples) to zillion dollar estate homes.

I would say, in a very, very general statement that a good majority of condo residents are snowbirds. The closer you get to the gulf the more likely this is.
The single family homes in these communities are more likely to have year round residents.

All of the gated communities are safe in Naples.

SW Florida International Airport is in Fort Myers. It is about a 30 minute drive up the Interstate. It is very easy access from Naples and is well planned.

There are plenty of hotels in Naples in all price ranges. If you come in the winter make sure you have a reservation.

Wellington is about 20 min., max, to PBI airport. Since this isn't a particularly touristic area, hotels are limited but there's a new Hampton Inn adjacent to Wellington Mall and main roads. Housing is in a slump, as is the case state-wide, but Wellington is perhaps not as economically depressed as many areas. Single family homes are now ranging from about $230,000 and up, in nice neighborhoods. I've lived here for years and have never had any problems with crime nor have I heard of anything significant locally. Much of Wellington's charm & uniqueness lies in the fact that beautiful horse farms lie in the middle of town and there's a great sense of open space and outdoor activities in this small town. It's a special place to live and raise kids. Good luck with your decision.

I live in a gated, golf community in Naples. I have a 2 bedroom with a den, 2100 sq. feet with water (lake) and golf course views. We paid $285,000, but most of the homes in this section are going for over $400,000. This was an estate sale on the market for 2 years and she wanted to get rid of it. We also had the incentive that we were able to close in one week and right before Christmas.

It just depends how badly the seller wants to get rid of the property and what the buyer is willing to pay.
