We lived on the 20th floor with 2 small dogs. PITA waiting for the elevator to take them out 4 times a day. One day, due to a fire alarm inspection, the elevator was locked out for a long period when the dogs had to go out. Had to walk down. Luckily, elevator was working again by the time we walked up several floors and checked it.

We lived near the elevator and could hear everyone talking as they stood there waiting for it to come.

One guy down the hall was a total jerk. Let his kid run up and down the hall for exercise, bounce his basketball off the walls, ride his bike etc. Drove our dogs crazy, they barked at all the noises. I had to file a complaint with the HOA about him. They said they had several complaints about him and his kid over the years, but never did anything about it. I tried talking to him and he was belligerent. Said I was the problem, he could do anything he wanted to because he had lived there longer than we had.

The vent above the gas cooktop recirculated back into the condo, did not vent to the outside. I could not cook a lot of stuff without setting off the smoke alarm (finally just disconnected that). Had to open the door to the outside to vent odors out.

Condo was near Northwestern Hospital. Could hear police and ambulance sirens 24/7.

Condo cost a fortune for 1300 sq ft. Bedrooms were so small we couldn't fit our furniture in them. Had to rent a storage space to keep a lot of stuff. Paid $35K extra for a parking space. HOA was outrageous and there were few if any real amenities.

There were several large construction projects in our neighborhood. The dust was out of control and the air handling system in the building did not filter it out well. We had to dust and vacuum constantly.

We loved Chicago and had visited frequently of the course of many years. Thought we would like living there, but it was entirely different than a week long vacation. Traffic, crime, cost of living and finally the weather ruined it for us. We only lasted 9 months, barely survived the brutal winter. 84 inches of snow and wind chills of 40 below zero.

Good thing about it all is, I don't know if we would have ended up in Naples if we hadn't had the Chicago experience.
