Hello,

I think I have a unique situation here, as far as Naples is concerned. My wife and I have very young kids but would like to live in a golf community in the Naples area. Are there are "kid-friendly" communities out there or anyway of finding out how kid-friendly these communities are?

We've been to Vineyards a few times and it seems like that is a great place for kids as you see basketball hoops in the driveways of houses, young people walking around, and a healthy junior golf league. Is that the case and are there other communities out there like this or am I off my rocker here?

We have a budget of up to $1 million and would like to be able to own our own cart although that is not a deal-breaker. We have looked at The Quarry and a few others but tough to get a vibe there, especially out of season. The Quarry seems really cool and unique but not sure on the kid situation there.

Appreciate it!

My take on the Quarry, via 2 people who live there, is that "it isn't a retirement community but it might as well be."

I'll be curious as to what others say!

Tim:

DH and I have been looking at homes in the vineyards. We are looking for a community that is geared more towards adults and less towards families. We did not get the impression that there were a lot of families there. What neighborhoods in the Vineyards have basketball hoops?

When we looked at Long Shore Lakes the realtor bragged that they had the most bus stops in Naples. When you drive around all you see are basketball hoops. She also said that their yearly "party" had a theme of Harry Potter. That gave us the impression that it is very family friendly. Although it is not a golf community and the homes are below your budget.

Riverstone is a beautiful community. Drive around and you see a lot of basketball hoops. Tons of children's playsets in the backyards and pool toys in the pools. Look on their social calendar and there are many activities geared towards kids. Again, I think the home prices are below your budget.

We looked at the Quarry. We really like that they have a lot of social events for adults. I get the impression that it is more geared towards adults with less families there. I don't recall seeing basketball hoops.

Have you considered a family friendly community that doesn't have golf and then joining one of the many courses in Naples? I don't believe you have to live in the Vineyards to join their country club and golf. It's very smart of you to make sure the community you pick fits your lifestyle. Generally speaking, I think golf communities are geared more towards adults. Good luck!

Barb

We are a younger family of 4 who just moved into Esplanade Golf and Country Club. My children are 10 and 8. There is a lot of construction going on here, so it's hard to tell exactly how many kids will be in here, but the clubhouse is being built along with a large pool and a restaurant for general use. I believe there is one bus stop here now, but with the proximity to the schools and size of the development, I can imagine there will be more added.

Depending on the size of the house and builder, there are two builders in here, will be your cost differences, but I believe the range is a few hundred thousand to a million plus.

Good luck with your move! We have been here just over a month and are enjoying it!

What is the bigger inconvenience, driving your kids to other communities so they can play with other kids or driving to a golf course outside of your own community? I'm willing to bet your kids socialize more than you golf. At least, they should.

Thank you everyone! We decided to build in Stonecreek. Too many advantages. Looks like it will be a great community for the kids and for us to make friends as well. You get a great bang for your buck there. Some great models for reasonable prices. As the kids grow up and want to play golf we will join a golf community.

bbtondo: We looked at the new construction in the Vineyards. In driving around afterwards there were some basketball hoops up. Not sure which community it was.
