I agree with the OP, it would bother me to no end. For whatever reason its unsightly and shows a disregard for others in your neighborhood. I would pass on this house as well. The last thing you need is a potential problem. Lucky you discovered it before you bought.

If you simply visited the house, you are assuming because the furniture and things were on the lania that they'd been there long term.
Perhaps they were being picked up by a thrift store the next week.

At least visit a few times.

The Riverstone HOA covenants require that personal property shall not be visible from a neighbor's property. The intent is surely to prevent using one's lanai (or other parts of the property) as for storage; however, the covenant is so broad as to be difficult to enforce. (What about lanai furniture? Or a pool skimmer?)

HOAs have enough legal power over their subjects, that they rarely have a hard time enforcing any rule, however inane.

The houses are, literally, about 10' apart. How are you never gonna see your neighbor's "property" at some point or another?

The best part is that I bet there is another covenant that says shrubs can't be over 5 feet, which would be the logical cure - high bushes.

The good news is that a light-handed policy turned over to the community stays light. But a heavy handed one gets worse.
