Starting in Naples and heading to Orlando Airport this afternoon. We usually go I75 to I4, but I see on google maps the traffic starts around the tampa area on I75. Am I better off taking 17 to 570 to I4 today? We've never traveled that way before. Are there gas stations along the way? Any advice would be appreciated!

You have to go to Orlando to fly out ? Can you fly out of Punta Gorda or Fort Myers ?

I've been commuting between Naples and MCO for over 16 years, and can say without any doubt, that I-75 to I-4 is never the best route to take to MCO. I'm betting that today, you won't even be able to get to MCO before your flight leaves. It takes under 3 hours with no traffic, and leave 4 hours before I am supposed to be at work. It's gotten so bad lately that I have been adding 20-30 minutes to that because I4 is always backed up now, and the detour adds about 15 minutes, and it's still cutting it close. And that's not during a hurricane, holiday weekends or any other non standard events.

If I had to go up there today, I'd call in sick , but, barring that, I'd be looking at the same way I usually go, which is: I75 to 78 to 31 to 70 to Turner Rd. to 17, to 557 to I4 then 417 to the airport (look on a map).

If I4 is backed up, and it typically is nowadays,, I stay on 557 to the end, which is Deen Still Rd, which becomes Ronald Raygun Pkway after 27. At that point, I either take Champion's Gate Blvd to I4, which if its still backed up, I stay on there (It becomes Osceola Polk line rd) until S Lake Wilson Rd and then get on 429S (via Sinclair Blvd) and then get on I4 for about 1.5 miles until 417. If the turn to get on Champion's Gate Blvd is backed up, I stay on R R Pkway until Lake Wilson, and take that to Sinclair for the 429 cut through.

Keep in mind, that I4, especially in this area, is a disaster on a good day.

I'd bet that 31 and 17 will be a mess today too. Lots of gas (normally) along 17 though.

Good luck!

Tripower:

We decided to take I17 and got to MCO in 3 hours 20 minutes. There was gas along the way and all well went. We were fortunate to get out of town. Watching the weather and hoping for the best for our beautiful Naples.
