That's a fairly big area... of all the places in between... which would be the best based on the following, not in order...
  • Low crime rate
  • Not all old people (even though I am one by the calendar)
  • Nightlife
  • Beauty
  • Condos with beach views
  • Close to other places for their nightlife if the city is void of it's own
  • Singles

Well, based on the above criteria, I would absolutely have to say Sarasota. I don't know about specific crime rate numbers, but from the first point on down I think Sarasota is the obvious choice.

I would have to agree with anotherdayinparadise, Sarasota is the right choice in my opinion. It fits all of what have listed better than any other city in the area you have in mind.

They're both nice-and expensive. Lido is probably more low key than Siesta. Both get pretty busy during tourist season. The driving gets pretty crazy when the tourists come down, and that's about the worst part of both of them. I like the idea of being able to walk to most everything and the small beach town feeling.

You will love Sarasota - Siesta and Lido are both great. Personally I think Siesta has the more laid-back lifestyle, a little bit Bohemian, while Lido, having St. Armand's Circle and all and being closer to downtown seems more upscale and active. In season, BOTH areas will be "jamming" with tourists. Both are great places, you will just have to visit and see which you prefer!
