To the OP: My comment wasn't meant to be a personal attack. I had just read another post where older folks were being called old farts and your comments triggered a nerve. The elderly used to be revered and now all I hear are derogatory remarks, so I don't know if this is a growing trend in our country or more common in Florida, probably a little of both. Anyway, maybe I was a little out of line, but keep in mind that the problems you listed are pretty common in condo communities, depending on your expectations.

No worries Nancy. I enjoy older folks (and younger, too), but I'd also like to be around people my age so I have someone to play with.

I appreciate your perspective ~ Thanks for all the great information!

I live in Glen Eagle. I would hardly call it a mixed age group. Yes, there are some younger families but most tend to be renters. Maybe the Lagio section has more families simply because the houses are bigger.

You have to remember, as another poster pointed out, Naples is all about SEASON. There are a lot of SNOWBIRDS here. What Naples is like November through March is nothing like it is April through October. When the snowbirds leave, everything grinds to a halt. That includes Glen Eagle, and probably most of the golf communities. The "planned events" are few and far between in off season. The golf course, and clubhouse, shuts down on Mondays in the off season.

If you are in your 50s and plan on being a snowbird, you won't have a problem since you won't be here in the off season. My neighbors on either side of me are snowbirds; one couple are from the UK and the other from Pa. I would say they are in their late 60s maybe. They are nice but you hardly make friends when people are only here for a few months.

We own and used to live in a condo in South Naples. Definitely not the part of town to be. That place WAS mostly "old people". I am 60 and most looked old enough to be MY parents. The HOA rules and regulations, and FEES, were absurd. Yep, the people were in the pool saying "he said, she said". Very true. There was not much to do around there. We usually went to Marco for entertainment. Double edged swords there. IN season traffic was horrible and restuarants had long lines. OFF season places were closed, or cut their hours. We usually ended up going to Old or North Naples. At least here in East Naples we are more or less in between with less driving time.

For the price you mentioned you can NOW definidtely get a small house in a gated golf community. I definitely would not recommned South Naples at all. Go NORTH, unless of course, you want to buy on Marco itself.

Marco has its own set of problems, much more expensive than North Naples or Central Naples. From Water prices to huge tax bills, Marco is not for a new owner who will get Clobbered with huge tax bills
