Hello all...I am on the east coast near Ft. Lauderdale. Wife and I were thinking of driving down the Alley to the west coast to spend a weekend at a resort. There are so many to choose from. We want something right on the beach and something around 250 or less a night. We don't want screaming kids running around. Any suggestions ? We are in our early 30's. Just want to relax and take in nice ambiance. Beach is important....tranquil waters, soft white sand.

Thanks !

The Hilton in Naples & Marco Island are lovely. Rates? It's still off-season, so maybe cheaper now.
The Marriot on Marco is very nice and lots for adults to do. But it is very kid friendly, but it's large enough and with late night activities, the kids aren't a problem. They have 2 pools and one seemed more kid friendly than the other. The Hilton-Marco is alittle lower key than the Marriot with alot of Europeans there when I went, who were quite reserved.
All 3 are on the beach, but I have to say the Marriot is the best for beach activity.
Sorry if this doesn't help. My stays were on weekends and when kids were still on vacation. This time of year, I couldn't say.
What about Key West? That was more adult oriented.

Also, if you have AAA membership, they have excellent agents who can look things up for you - no extra charge, and will look for deals too.
They found us a very lovely B&B in Key West.

No screaming kids? I would suggest something on Vanderbilt Beach. It's off-season, so La Playa should be under $200 a night.

La Playa is over priced and old. In big need of updating, clean and well kept but small rooms from what well traveled close friends of ours who stayed there recently told me. We had 4 drinks, 2 wines and a couple mixed, there one night after a nice dinner somewhere else and the tab was $80.00 plus. I guess because we were a couple hundred feet from the Gulf was the reason.
