I am excited about our upcoming a trip to Naples in next few weeks(late April/early May) for pleasure. However, I need your help. We have never been to Naples before. We would (likely) be flying into Ft. Myer SW Regional Airport... (Would we encounter much traffic during rush hour heading to Naples?)
Here are our plans:
.Shopping
.Rent bicycles for a day
.Spend time at the beaches
.the Everglades for a day(or two)
.Golfing/Tennis(maybe)
Any Recommendations would be appreciated..
>Hotels(less than $200/night)
-What are the nicest areas/neighborhoods to stay in?
>Attractions for the younger crowd (35 and under)
>Beaches (surfing, fire pits etc..)
>Traffic
>Areas to avoid..
I just want to make sure this trip goes perfect.

I grew up in Naples but have been gone from there for 17 years. I'd help but I can only imagine the changes over that time period. I'd more than likely get lost there myself. Have a great time.

There is usually more rush hour traffic in the afternoon heading out of Naples, not into, so you should be OK in that aspect.
I don't know about the hotels as I live here and haven't had to use them.
I have been told to stay out of the Manor area-zipcode 34113. Younger crowd attraction...hmmm. Beaches. Beaches. Beaches. 5th avenue and 3rd avenue have some bars. Pontoon boats. The pier. Airboat rides.

My dad lives there, so I've visited a couple times. Make sure you check out the downtown area at night, it's really pretty at night.

You might also want to take a trip to Sanibel and Captiva. They are islands off the coast of Fort Myers. It's a great place.
When you go to the Everglades, visit the National Park Welcome Center there. They offer a very nice boat tour.

I'm glad you mentioned that. We were thinkin about those islands-but now were certain. Captiva and Sanibel both look beautiful!

Sanibel has bike trails and several shopping areas . Toll is $6.oo and traffic is terrible after 4:30 leaving island. Captiva has a fun restruant the bubble room, lots of memorabilia, boy scouts wait on your table etc. Cheeseburger cheeseburger has a great burger and 70 drink flavors.
They have some of the top rated beaches in the us....great shelling.
Naples The naples pier is nice.
Check out tommy bahamas on 3rd street south. Campellios is a must for dinner! My favorite !!!! Its across from tommys. There is a hidden parking garage under ground that alot of people don't know about that sits west of 3rd street south. If you are on 3rd st south,heading south Marissias is on your left and ice cream parlor on your right turn right towards ice cream parlor and garage is on left. (sorry cannot remember street name)
In the shops above garage is a neat store called bead-it. You can make your own bracelets and such. Shopping on 3rd st south is $$$ Great atmosphere though!
Bayside shops has a place for shushi called syrah! Lots of wine selections, waterview neat bar, Stoneys great steaks in same plaza.
5th ave is great for nightime and eateries. Verginas is great italian food
with occasional live music. The boardwalk is great for lunch.
The naples grand resort is nice. Stop by the pool bar and have several drinks
then head down the stairs behind the pool and catch the shuddle and it will take you down a long ride on a boardwalk through mangroves to the beach.....really neat ride and nice beach. Naples Grand is at the end of pineridge and west of us41.
Waterside shops has really nice shops saks,pottery barn.etc. Nice barnes and Noble bookstore in parking lot. (great coffee break)!
Naples has a trolley that runs several places. Do not drink and drive in naples!!! Watch for beach parking areas some are by permit only!
Naples beach club is a neat hotel and has a tiki bar and some night life.
The Ritz Carlton has really nice bar for those spiffed up nights out on the town. The dance floor lights up like stars...kinds neat!

Southbound evening traffic will not be too bad. Many people live in Fort Myers and work in Naples due to housing costs.
5th avenue South is nice, as is 3rd street South-both in the same area. Tons of shopping and restaurants.
There is no surfing. No waves on the Gulf. Fire pits are forbidden on the beach.
Naples is first and foremost, geared towards wealthy retirees. Activities are geared for the same. You can find something to do, just keep that in mind.
Go to Everglades City. I also agree with the other poster about Sanibel.
Visit Marco Island.
Any coastal neighborhood will be OK to stay in.
I live her and can't advise on hotel prices.
