I've been here for four months now. Moved here from Jupiter, FL after a car accident. Just wanted something slower paced. I definately got that in Naples. Problem is that I've been looking for work for three months now. I sent out over 20 resumes a week and in the three months I've been looking I've had 2 interviews. I am a family law paralegal. I can do civil litigation. I have sent my resume to every attorney, not just family law attorneys, in town. Nothing! I've used my settlement money and now I'm getting scared. Did I make a mistake moving here? I know the economy is bad but in Palm Beach County, where I'm from, there are tons of paralegal job postings. I've even started applying for jobs there. I love Naples though and my son is settled in high school. I'm applying for legal secretary, receptionist, administrative assistant, executive assistant positions. I'm registered with almost every staffing agency in town and there's not even any temp work for me. I've lowered my salary requirements, applying for part time work. I can't work in retail or a restaurant due to pain my my back from my car accident. I need to be sitting. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can land a full time job in the legal field in Naples?

All I can suggest is keep trying... I am closer to Ft. Myers and when I moved here in May of 2008 it took me over 6 months to find a job. Best of luck to you!

In July, the latest numbers, released by the US Department of Labor, showed the unemployment rate for Naples was 12.1 percent. Over in West Palm, the unemployment rate is 10.8.

Naples does not have a large professional base to begin with, either. Most of the jobs are service based.

In other words, it's not you. It's the area and the economy.

I don't know what to tell you. Ft. Meyers probably has many more opportunities.
Look at the Naples Daily New. The Classified section used to be about 4 pages of jobs.
Then it went to 1/2 a page and mostly medical.
Now, for the last 2 weeks, there's not even a Classified section.
It's now the back part of the Neopolitan section. I hope things work out for you.
There's definately a large casum between the "haves" and "have-nots".

Fort Myers unemployment rate is even higher at 13.2 percent! NO! NO! NO!

But relatively speaking, more business, larger population. And in her field there's definately more opportunities just bases on that.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I keep hearing of job fairs there, and none in collier.

Nope. Even in good times, most people commute from Fort Myers to Naples for jobs.

That'terrible. What's up with Fort Myers? Does Naples have more tourism based jobs?

I remember the pay was better. You could work in a store in Naples and get better pay.

Now, it doesn't matter. The unemployment rate is bad in both areas, but it is worse in Fort Myers.
