The Trails isn't technically in Hermitage, it is in Donelson right next to Priest Lake. It is perfectly safe and there is nothing wrong with it.

Brandywine, which someone else mentioned, is in South Nashville in an area which some people refer to as "Brentioch," due to its location between Brentwood and Antioch. This complex isn't terrible, but it has some safety issues and MUCH more of an Antioch feel than a Brentwood feel.

I said that partially tongue in cheek. Depending on where you are it's reasonably safe, I lived there for a while several years ago and had no problems with crime. I also hated it with a passion. It's NOT close to downtown and it's certainly nowhere near night life. The commuter train, the Music City Star, is actually great, but it's fairly limited on schedule. They did start doing an evening train on saturdays but you have to be back very early and you're far enough out that a cab ride is pretty expensive. If you don't plan on drinking downtown, then it's probably fine. The drive is not horrible after rush hour, depending on how convenient you are to the interstate. But you will probably have a lot more options re night life if you move closer to downtown. But you'll pay more, especially with your requirement for safety.

I was mistaken on saturday routes for the train, it's friday evening, and you have to be on board by 9:30 pm to make the return trip. Also ladybug, I sent you a direct message with an excel spreadsheet with crime stats I compiled earlier this year when my wife and I were trying to decide where to buy a house.

What is considered the safest suburb within 20 minutes of Nashville. I've just accepted a position in Hermitage and would like to live close to my job.

Not sure about the original price range, but if you able to... you might want to try Brentwood Villa condos for rent or Brentwood Trace (I and II) condos for rent. Probably 10-15 minutes to Antioch directly down Old Hickory Blvd opposite rush hour traffic, and about that long to downtown/west end area as you are sitting right at I-65 and OHB.

If you are working in Hermitage...I would look for something on that side of town...especially if you are going to rent first. If you like suburban living I would say, look in certain parts of Hermitage and if you have kids I would look in Mount Juliet.
