I'm about to turn 40 in December. I'm ready for a change in my life to start a new. I live in Madison, MS. It's a suburb of Jackson, MS. The area I live in is thriving and growing. I love the ART scene and that's one of the reasons I want to move to Nashville is so that I will have more opportunities to get involved and experience some more culture. We have our Fondren ART district here and that's definately something that interests me. I am very involved in community theatre here. I love the symphony and going to ART shows. I work in the banking industry and will be needing to find a job in that industry. I'm interested in finding a nice Irish Pub to relax in from time to time(but not a requirement,LOL).

You didn't really seem to ask for advice, so let me just say that your interests should be well accommodated here.

So, come on. Have no fear.

Good point, IngleDave...but I'll venture a guess that maybe he did want some input even though he didn't ask.

Lots of great areas in Nashville with an artsy vibe to them. Obviously your budget will be a big factor in which of these works for you...but I'd start with East Nashville. It's a gentrified neighborhood, lots of beautiful old homes that were dilapidated, now refurbished. Lots of writers and artists...a more bohemian feel. But there are some rough edges to the area as there is public housing a few miles away. 12South is another transition area with an artsy feel to it. It's 12 Avenue South near Belmont and Lipscomb Universities. Hard to describe...but lots of restaurants, coffee shops and artsy enclaves. Hillsboro Village is near Vanderbilt and Belmont Universities. Again, artsy enclave...lots of restaurants and bars. Very young feel to the area due to the universities. But a tad on the pricey side. Germantown is another gentrifying/transition area north of downtown off of Jefferson Street. Very old homes, a growing community, but very much still an area in reclamation mode. Some very rough edges nearby. It is about 10-15 years behind East Nashville.

There certainly are many more areas that you can find that would probably fit the bill, but these areas seem to be the most popular.

We have a very new and state-of-the-art symphony hall in Nashville right next to the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Downtown Hilton. It was damaged during the May flooding, but is set to re-open in January.

Our art scene is not New York or Chicago, but it's decent...maybe better than what you're used to in Jackson. The Frist Center has no permanant collection, but it does get some very nice traveling exhibits. Plus its just a beautful building to visit. There are lots of other galleries around town, The Alfred Stieglitz collection at Fisk University is very remarkable...but it may not be there much longer due to ongoing legal wrangling (the univ is trying to sell it to raise cash), there are several art houses on 5th Avenue downtown (The Art Company comes to mind) as well as Green Hills and other areas around town. Cheekwood is also a popular place to view art in West Nashville.

Lots of banking/finance positions in this town normally. Not sure about the job situation right now in that industry, but Nashville has several banks with major hubs here: SunTrust, Regions, and First Tennessee all have major operations here. Pinnacle Financial Partners is headquartered here and is the largest bank hq'd in Nashville. Bank of America has a good presence here as does US Bank. My guess is if you have good experience, you should be able to find a job fairly easily.

I'm a big fan of Mulligan's on 2nd Avenue. Even though its in the middle of tourist mecca, it generally gets a local crowd. Very low key place to hang out, toss darts, and hear some good celtic music. There's also Dan McGuinness on Demonbreun (on the roundabout) but it's fairly new and I'm not really down with the vibe there. It's more of an Irish Pub wannabe in my mind. There's also one out in Donelson that recently opened up and I've heard good things about, but never visited. Finally, if you go to East Nashville, you'll find Battered and Fried on Woodland Street. It's a Boston Bar, but definitely has a pub feel to it. Cool place.
