Hello all.

I'm going to be relocating to the Middle Tennessee area from Tucson and will be working downtown. I'm looking for a 4 bedroom house to lease within a 30 minute commute to downtown Nashville.

Which areas are best to commute into Nashville? From looking at the map and the populated area's around the city, I'm guessing the West (Ashland), East (Mt. Juliet / Lebanon), and Northern (Goodlettsville / Henderson) area's might offer the best commutes.

I used to live in the Smyrna / LaVergne area about 15 years ago and went to the LaVergne High School. But that area is built up so much from when I lived there what is the commute like now adays?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

IMO the I24 from Rutherford commute is the worst in the city. Best would be from the West because, well, not many people live out that way!

Vivelafrance is right, that I-24 corridor is brutal. Of course, I know people who do it everyday and don't complain...

I'll take a stab at drive times, I've lived both north and east of town. Obviously it all depends on how far the start and end destinations are off the interstate...and I'm assuming rush hour traffic:

Mt. Juliet is about a 30-35 minute commute to downtown. Lebanon will be at least 15 minutes longer...probably more like 20.

Hendersonville can be anywhere from 25 to 40 minutes depending which exit you use from the bypass. Goodlettsville is about 25 minutes. Gallatin will be about 45 minutes.

Bellevue is about 20 minutes...maybe even 15.

It goes without saying...but the best way to minimize traffic is to leave early. If I leave 10 minutes late, it can add 15-20 minutes extra to my commute. I usually always leave by 6:15 and head home around 4:45.

Thanks for the reply's. My office hours are going to be from 830-5pm, not exactly the best times to commute.

At this point I'm taking Smyrna off of my search as a possible place to find a rental.

I'm curious, can anyone give me an estimate on what the commute would be like from hendersonville to downtown during non rush hour traffic. I'm gonna be working. 10-5 or 11-6. Thank you...

From The Center Point Rd and Main Street exits...

For the morning, 15 minutes.

If you leave at 5, probably about 25-35 minutes. 25 if you take Ellington Pky, 35 if you have to come through the Rosa Parks Exit area.

if you leave at 6, 15 minutes.

I'd suggest getting an iPod and iPod hookup for your car then. Or some audiobooks. It will be worse at those times, but what can you do? It's still much better than other cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, or D.C..

How about commuting from northern Brentwood/Williamson County? I'm hoping to keep any commute no longer than 15-20 minutes, which is what I'm doing now.

I'll probably be leaving anywhere from 6:30-7:15 AM if I had to guess.

Thanks for any help.

I used to go the opposite way from MtJ to Franklin...so I'd see Brentwood/N Williamson traffic coming the opposite way. I asked a coworker who lives down there and he said it's about 25-35 minutes for him and he gets here around 7:45 or so. My guess is at 6:30 or so it would be about a 20 minute commute from Brentwood interstate exit to downtown interstate exit, and the later you leave the longer the commute.
