Hello all! We are planning a move to the Nashville area later this year and as part of our research on just how our cost of living will be impacted - we compared the cost of electric we pay now to that in the Nashville area.

We currently live in an area of the country where we constantly hear that we pay some of the highest electric rates in the country - and were surprised that the electric rates in the Nashville area seem to be just as high as ours!

SO... we have some questions for those of you local to the area:

1) What is the monthly average electric bill for an average 2,500-2,800 square foot house? If you could indicate at what temp you keep your thermostat set at in the Winter/Summer this would help us to compare your estimate to our own lifestyle. We like it WARM in the winter and COLD in the summer.

2) Is electric used to fuel heating systems in homes - or is heating primarily done using natural gas and home heating oil?

Your thoughts/comments are much appreciated.

Heating oil is not common here. Here is a link to a recent thread that answers this question:

Oh, it's no problem. I just remembered it and didn't want to misquote the many options.
