I've never been all the way up there, but I do think you should consider Springfield, TN (The Official Website of Springfield, TN).

Looks like the driving time is the same as from Clarksville, but the town looks a lot more like Franklin from the photos.

Plus, if you live in Springfield, you're only 30 minutes from Hendersonville shopping and 35 minutes from Downtown Nashville excitement (according to Google Maps)

Actually, looking at the photos, I think I'm going to try to go up and visit this spring. Looks A LOT like Franklin, but I'm guessing it's probably a lot less crowded and touristy - Downtown Tour / MVC-035S.JPG (http://www.springfield-tn.org/Downtown/gallery/pages/MVC-035S_JPG.htm - broken link)

Also have read some nice things about Franklin Kentucky, which would be about 1 hr 15 minutes on rural roads from Hopkinsville - City of Franklin, Kentucky | Official Website | Visiting Franklin (http://www.franklinky.org/visitingfranklin.html - broken link). (Didn't know until today that Johnny Cash and June Carter got married in Franklin, Kentucky!)

Franklin, KY is beautiful. It is quintessential small town America, there's even a drive-in theatre. I know of several people who live in Franklin and commute to the Nashville area for work. It's a straight show down I-65....Only 10 miles further out than Spring Hill, and a lot of people do that commute! However, getting to Hopkinsville might be more of an issue with back roads and such.

I think Exit 11 is the best area for you. Exit 24 is also a good option, but I think your commute to Hopkinsville would be over an hour. From Exit 11 it would be about 45 minutes. My husband is stationed at Campbell and I too would rather live in Franklin/Brentwood. Exit 11 is the closest thing we could find. The area is also called "Sango", and has a Publix, Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, and the best schools in the area. Plus it is only a 45 minute drive to downtown Nashville, which is great for shopping, air travel, etc.

Hendersonville might be as good an option as Franklin...easier commute. Still a long drive, though, even if you stay close to the bypass.

I think the best choices would be in Clarksville. Exit 11 (Sango) or Exit 8 (Rossview). Wouldn't recommend the Exit 1 area or north Clarksville. I've been to the mall at night lots of times. Never had a problem.

You won't find much shopping, dining or arts in the other towns along I-24. They're very rural. Clarksville has most of what you need, and for everything else, Nashville isn't too far of a drive.
