I think it's a little too cold to sit outside still, so I'd like to find a nice indoor spot to just sit and read for about 3-4 hours. I don't need or want dead silence but I don't want an overload of distractions either. I'm thinking something like a coffee shop, library, or what other ideas do you have? Somewhere with a comfy chair where I could order a coffee or get one closeby. Any suggestions in the downtown, vandy, Green Hills, east side or west side would be fine. I just want to find a semi-quiet little spot where I can read a good book. Good ambiance would be a bonus but not a must-have.

Thank you for any recommendations that you think I could check out!

I think all the paneras have fireplaces and nice comfy chairs. If you don't have to pay for parking Opryland might be nice too. I haven't been since it changed but it was almost like being in a park before the flood (except temperature controlled).

You should check out Ugly Mugs in East Nashville. It's across from Rosepper off of Eastland Ave. I would think that would be a great place to hang and read a book.

Downtown...the Main Library on Church is a no-brainer (except no drinks allowed). The reading room on the 3rd floor is really amazing and beautiful. If you wanted a coffee, there is a bakery/deli on the first floor that you could sit at for awhile. Free parking with validation at the security desk.

West End/Hillsboro Village...Fido's is the place to go. Coffee shop with lots of comfortable seating and places to read and hang out.

obviously all coffee shops work here. but if you are looking for reading chairs instead of just small hard cafe chairs, here are a few that have some:

starbucks on hillsboro in green hills (at least 10)
Borders on WestEnd
Vandy Library
Downtown Library
Crema (on 2, but best coffee in town - get the cortado)

I am sure East Nashville has lots too, but I don't know it well yet.

I've also heard good things about Frothy Monkey over in the 12South area.

I have a chair in my house I read from, or a couch, bed, floor, bath, toilet, etc. why is there a need to go to a place and read? So somebody can see you being intellectual? I can have cheese and crackers in my chair, a glass of wine, a beer, I can even sit naked and read if I desire.

Oh BTW, Merry Christmas

It's a coffee house thing. If you have to ask, you can't understand.
1. Bongo Java across from Belmont,
2. Starbucks on 21st near Vandy law school.
3. Frothy Monkey
4. Ugly Mugs
5. Bongo Java near 5 points in East Nashville (safe, but very hard core) I love it.
All the others mentioned I approve as well; enjoy.

This is probably not going to move the conversation forward, but my problem with reading in public places is that I want to look up every time someone new comes in! I guess I can't resist people-watching.

But I like the coffee!
