My husband and I will be relocating in 2 weeks due to a job transfer and need to sign a lease fast! We were only free a couple days last month to get acquainted with the area and are torn between living downtown (north of/near farmers market) or in Germantown. The reviews appear to be mixed so any insight would be very helpful! We need to settle on a place by next week.

Will we find a younger single crowd in Germantown? (26-30) PLUS safe walking neighborhoods for the dog, and great bars/restaurants?

West end is great ..but we're not interested in paying the price. :/
downtown appears to be a little too touristy for us..would prefer more of a local vibe

You should probably look in East Nashville as well.

It sounds like East Nashville is really what you're looking for. You'll likely find more house for the money too! Good luck.

I moved to Germantown in December and absolutely love it here. Most of my neighbors are in the 25-35 age range...mostly singles or young married/gay couples. I think you'll find most of the singles in the larger condo/loft developments.

I have 3 dogs and walk them regularly through the neighborhood without issue. While it borders some questionable areas, Germantown and Salemtown have excellent neighborhood associations that take any rumor of crime very seriously. There's a strong community atmosphere.

I love the convenience of the farmers market. Living within walking distance is great because parking is hard to find on the weekends!

The only negative may be the great bars/restaurants. While there are a couple of good restaurants, a cool coffee shop, and a few other local merchants, you'll still find yourself heading out to other neighborhoods for bars and nightlife. Luckily its a very short and cheap cab ride into downtown, lol.

Hope this helps!
